TruCru has delivered the corporate AV package, inclusive of lighting and video components for UCCF’s Forum for the past two years. Forum is an annual conference led by UCCF ‘Universities and Colleges Christian Fellowship.’ The 5-day event is packed with a wide array of talks, music, activities and exhibitions, focused on supporting the delegates to lead and operate successful Christian Unions back on their own campuses.
The installed AV solutions lighting package was designed to cater to the conference’s combination of corporate Worship and talks, both for the delegates in the room, and the for the video elements; being IMAG (image magnification) and session recording. The lighting design provided scope to craft clean, preset states for the talks and sermons. Engaging for the delegates, whilst providing depth to the shots, these clean yet engaging states aimed to reflect the level of excellence that UCCF carry throughout their operations. To fulfil the requirement for dynamic lighting to flow with the worship element of the conference, the lighting solution needed to be capable of subtle movement and colour mixing, whilst also creating moments of impact in line with builds in the music and worship.

To realise this design, we utilised the Robe Spiider. The large face of the Spiider was perfect for the creation of both impactful corporate states, and the dynamises required in worship. Utilising the Spiider’s flower effect combined with breakup effects created from the Showtec Phantom 130 Spot allowed for the creation of large-scale breakup beam effects. To rig these units black anodised scaff was attached to the back of the staging structure; against the colour of the blackout marquee, when in event conditions, this provides a slick rigging solution suitable for a corporate environment, enabling the focus to be on the resultant light output. A festoon backdrop filled these black spaces with light, appealing both to the naked eye, and on camera. An array of 1K fresnel’s provided an extensive front light coverage, for the creation of effective key light, conducive of that required for good video capture. Unique 2.1 hazers provided a light haze covering of the space.

Colour and intensity controllable venue lighting was provided through an array of LEDJ 18T3 floods. These units enabled the creation of evenly distributed venue light, which was used to aid transitions between sections of the conference, with sections of worship being intentionally dimmer, whilst also having the capability to facilitate delegates reading materials from their seats.

The video elements of the AV solution was designed to satisfy; IMAG, session recording, media playback and live song lyrics. The main in-person video interface came from two 12” fastfold projection surfaces, and accompanying Panasonic laser projectors. Additional video content surfaces were provided through LED displays, including 2x LG 70inch 4K displays, 4x Samsung 50inch 4K displays and 4x 22inch displays. These fulfilled roles including stage comfort monitors, BSL (British sign language) audio description, and site distributed content displays. A 4 camera deployment, utilising both Data Video PTZ’s and manually operated Panasonic units provided crystal clear images for both image and session recording, suitable to capture the dynamic intense lighting states, particularly during worship. A ProPresenter machine, running 4 video outputs enabled the routing of specific content to individual screens, whilst also providing a broadcast quality keyed lower third for the worship song lyrics. To handle the switching of these video elements TruCru also provided an 8 input PPU (Portable Production Unit) rack, as well as comms for the production crew operating in the main venue.
